Dear Brethren,
At the last Stated Meeting of Smithfield Lodge on May 1, we were visited by our own DDGM, Right Worshipful Bob Hogan of Masonic District 64-A and Right Worshipful Lloyd Addy Sr., DDGM of Masonic District 64-B, and five Brothers from Paradise Valley Lodge # 61, Phoenix, Arizona, sometimes referred to as "Smithfield West." Visiting from Paradise Valley Lodge were Worshipful Brother Frank Trenholm, Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Arizona; Brother Jim Stegall PM of Smithfield Lodge, dual member, and resident of Phoenix; and Brothers Fred Stewart; Steven Graves Sr. and Glen Woods. Brother Fred presented Smithfield Lodge a check for $500.00 for the Endowment Fund. Our thanks to Paradise Valley Lodge for this very fine gesture. The following day, the group breakfasted at, and later toured, the Masonic Retirement Center, Masonic Home and School, and the Masonic Temple. Friday evening, May 2, the group from Paradise Valley Lodge and members of Smithfield Lodge gathered for a chicken fried steak dinner prepared by Brother Butch Hester PM and his wife Linda. A presentation of the Golden Trowel Award was made to Brother R. T. Koonce PM. Congratulations to Brother Koonce. Saturday morning, the Brothers from Phoenix flew back home. Come back soon Brethren!
On Friday, May 9, another Golden Trowel Award was presented. This one to Brother Charlie Groves PM. A meal was prepared by me and my wife Mary. Congratulations to Brother Groves.
On May 3, at the Wichita Falls Scottish Rite Reunion, it was my honor to be made a Scottish Rite Mason. I should have done it years ago. By the way, I just happen to have some petitions for the next reunion!
Our next stated meeting will be Thursday, June 5, 1997. We will be honoring Billie Montgomery during the open part of this meeting. Billie is the wife of our late Brother G.R.M. Montgomery PM. All the ladies are welcome. During the business portion of the meeting, we will be electing Officers for the ensuing year. All members are urged to attend. Bring a covered dish and a friend.
A big thank you to the Garage Sale Committee for the excellent job done on the Garage Sale. Even though the weather was uncooperative it was still a success. The total realized from the sale was approximately $1500.00 and was divided between the General Fund, the Building Fund and the Endowment Fund. A special thanks to Brothers Harold Webb PM, R.T. Koonce PM, Frank Levings PM and all the other Brothers and their wives involved who made this a successful sale.
Fraternally and Sincerely,
Johnny Rumfield from Smithfield
Brethren,
Our Lodge has been busy lately. For example, we hosted our visiting Brothers from Paradise Valley Lodge #61, presented two Golden Trowel Awards and, in spite of the weather, we had a very successful garage sale in April. In front of the building , Brother Frank Levings PM tilled up an area and sowed in some grass seed and installed some new water faucets. We have also been very busy on the inside of the building. We have made some improvements to the kitchen area and we even polished the floor in the dining room. Brethren, this list could go on and on. We have more to do. We could use your help in addition to those already giving their time. By coming to Lodge you can make some suggestions or share your ideas. Let us know. This is your Lodge too!! If you have any questions feel free to call me at my work or home.
Fraternally Yours,
Steve Bachman
Brethren,
The time is here for you to give your thoughts and ideas to the Officers of the Lodge. New ideas are the foundation of growth. But, growth does not necessarily mean new members. Growth can be within the Lodge itself. This internal growth will help attract new members, and we can become one big machine.
Sincerely,
Daryle Hester

I hope that the Trestle Board is off and running again. Brother David Terrell SD and Brother Don LaPlante have agreed to get the paper ready early in the month to give each of you an opportunity to attend the various meetings. Let's say thanks to these brethren who will make this work. If you feel adventurous, submit an article to the Trestle Board and we will include it. Pick your topic and go for it. Please take advantage of visiting your Lodge's other events as they come about.
As of this writing , about thirty of you are in arrears on your dues. Please, if you are having trouble paying your dues, swallow a little pride and let us take care of this for you. There is a way to handle these things if we know about it... Don't go on suspension for non-payment of dues! Talk to us! We can help.
What a good time we had with the brethren from Smithfield West! They are a hoot!!!
Congratulations to Brothers R.T. Koonce PM and Charlie Groves PM. They are the latest recipients of the Golden Trowel Award. None deserved the award more, but several deserve it as much.
Fraternally Yours,
B. R. Campbell

From the Editor:
Approximately one month ago I approached Brother Steve Bachman SW, and asked him if I could take charge of publishing the Smithfield Trestle Board. He quickly escorted me to Brother Johnny Rumfield WM, and Brother Billy Campbell, Secretary and PM and informed them of my request. My main reason for making this request was to try to do my small part for the members of the Lodge. I also had a few designs that I wanted to introduce into the Trestle Board that I felt might be of interest to both new and long tenured Brothers. Brother David Terrell SD, kindly offered his technical skills and assistance in putting the Trestle Board together. He was quickly taken up on his offer. Thanks Brother Terrell! This publication may go through a few changes as we develop our design and any help from our Masonic Brothers would be greatly appreciated. Please submit your ideas, articles or anything of concern by the 5th of each month to allow for inclusion in the Trestle Board.
Please feel free to write me at: Don LaPlante, 1387 Sweet Gum Circle, Keller, TX. 76248 or call at 817-281-0384.
Fraternally yours,
Don LaPlante
Editor, Smithfield Trestle Board
Please give these Brethren a call and or visit.
The following brethren will observe their Masonic Birthdays. They were raised to the sublime Degree of Master Mason during this month.
Congratulations Brethren!

The purpose of freemasonry is to enable men to meet in harmony, to promote friendship, and to be charitable. Its basic ideals are that all persons are the children of one God, that all persons are related to each other, and that the best way to worship God is to be of service to people.
